Katie Kauffman can also help you navigate other issues that come up when you have been charged with or convicted of a crime.  These issues and areas include, for example:

  • Federal Litigation

    • Handles complex federal cases in Washington and Oregon

  • Diversion

    • An option Katie Kauffman can help you with if you have no criminal history and are charged with a gross misdemeanor or misdemeanor.

  • Deferred prosecution

    • Entry into an intensive treatment program.  Once completed, either after 2 or 5 years depending on the charge, the charge will be dismissed from your record.  This allows you to avoid mandatory minimum jail time.

    • Typically entered into on second and subsequent DUIs or if you are facing significant time because of criminal history.

    • This can be an option for those struggling with substance abuse issues or mental health issues.

  • Expungements

    • A criminal record can haunt you.  If you meet certain requirements, you may be able to have the conviction expunged from your record and have a clean background.

  • Firearm Restoration

    • If you have been convicted of a felony or certain misdemeanor offenses, your right to possess a firearm was revoked.

    • For those unfamiliar with the applicable statutes, filings and court appearances to schedule, restoring the 2nd Amendment right can be confusing and burdensome.

    • Ms. Kauffman can handle the matter for you and you will not even be required to make a court appearance to restore your right to possess a firearm.

  • Probation violations

    • If you are on probation, the court may order certain conditions and you must abide by these.  If you do not, a probation violation could be filed and you could be looking at loss of liberty.

    • Katie Kauffman has experience in probation violation hearings and can help you if one is filed against you.

  • Specialty courts

    • If you have a substance abuse problem, mental health problem, or co-occurring disorder(s), Katie Kauffman can help you by referring you to a specialty court and navigate you through the process.  There are three in Clark County, Washington:

      • Mental Health Court

      • Substance Abuse Court

      • Veterans Court
